A watercolor painting by Marshal Walden depicting a narrow alley between two grey buildings in Provincetown, leading toward a beach at sunrise. A bicycle is leaned against the left wall, and a puddle reflects the vibrant orange and pink sunrise sky. An "ART" sign stands among dune grass in the distance where the alley meets the harbor. Signed "MARSHAL WALDEN" in the bottom right corner.

Artist Statement

Intentional Focus.

My work is an exercise in intentional focus. Through Curbing Art, I seek to strip away the distractions of a busy world to reveal the quiet strength of the essentials.

It is a process of finding what is essential, so the soul of the place can finally be felt.

A high-resolution, close-up photograph of vertical wooden planks with a distressed white-wash finish. The light gray and white paint is weathered and peeling in several areas, revealing the dark, aged wood grain and knots underneath. Several rusted nail heads are visible along the bottom edge.

Provincetown, distilled.

Curbing Art is a search for the essential.

In a world filled with visual noise, there is power in the edit. My work is centered on the act of "curbing" the disciplined removal of secondary details to reveal the structural soul of a subject.
