ICONIC SOULS
Celebrate the historic skyline and inclusive spirit of Provincetown with "Monumental Pride" by artist Marshal Walden. This piece is a distilled architectural study of the Provincetown landscape, capturing the town’s most iconic landmarks in a moment of atmospheric clarity.
THE SCENE
The artwork depicts the historic Provincetown skyline, dominated by the tall granite Pilgrim Monument rising prominently above the town hall clock tower. Beneath the cloudy blue sky, the composition explores the structural artistry of local businesses and coastal residences, while a rainbow Pride flag waves prominently to the right. By applying the Curbing Art philosophy, the artist removes transient visual noise to focus on the architectural essence and the enduring soul of the community.
ARTIST NOTE
With "Monumental Pride," my intent was to capture the legendary presence of a skyline that represents both historic strength and modern belonging. In my work, I look for the "structural bones" of a place. The Pilgrim Monument and the Town Hall clock tower are the anchors of Provincetown, and by curbing the surrounding noise, I wanted to highlight their timeless architectural grace.
The addition of the Pride flag is a vital part of this narrative, as it signifies that this historic landscape is a sanctuary of inclusion. I hope this piece serves as a meditative reminder of the harmony between tradition and the vibrant, diverse life of the Outer Cape.
