Originals
Every original watercolor is a search for the structural soul of the subject. These are the singular, foundational studies where I first attempt to curb the noise of the world and reveal the architectural essence beneath.
Unlike a print, an original painting archives a specific, unrepeatable moment in time. For example, the way a "Blue Hour" shadow settled against a clapboard wall or the precise glow of a sunset hitting a Greek Revival gable. These works are the most direct expression of my disciplined approach to light and form.
The Studio Process
- One of a Kind: Each piece is a unique artifact. Once an original is collected, the specific tactile energy of the hand-applied pigment and the texture of the paper cannot be replicated.
- Archival Foundation: I work exclusively with professional-grade, lightfast pigments on heavy-weight archival paper to ensure the work's longevity and structural integrity.
- The Distillation: My process is one of removal, the stripping away of the transient details of the street to leave only the enduring geometry of Provincetown’s most iconic souls.
Collecting an Original
When you acquire an original, you are securing a piece of the history as I experienced it. These paintings are intended for those who seek to live with the quiet strength and stillness in its purest form.
